So you ever wonder if everything you’re doing is just … Pointless screaming into the void?
Lately there’s been nothing but second guessing my choices on everything regarding SquarePeg Books. It’s really not that much money that I spend on it, and logically I know that doing the writing thing isn’t the fast track to anywhere, but …
Is it responsible of me to keep spending the money? Where is this going to be in ten years? 20 years? I am really achieving anything? Am I saddling my kids with an after-death problem that will unnecessarily complicate things (I’m 50, I’m allowed to worry about such things, now)
Conversely, how much does the average person spend on average hobbies a month? Probably about the same.
But … looking back at the patterns of ADHD-ness in my life, is it really wise for me to continue in this fashion? Do I have the ability to stick with it, the way a professional needs to, long term? Am I just wasting valuable resources? Yes, writing has been with me for almost 40 years, but as a hobby.
I have no illusions about being one of the rare 5% who can be an author full time, but I would like to have the consistency required for it.
Perhaps its just the knowledge that my fledglings will soon be leaving the nest (a few years off, yet, but soon) that makes me question the decisions I make for tomorrow.
