June 2026 Wednesday Word: Tiffle

I cannot promise how, where or when these words were used, if ever. I simply find them delightful, and want to share.

TIFFLE

To potter about aimlessly.

I do not “tiffle.”

They are “side quests” and they are very important.

But sometimes one must “tiffle.”

Sometimes I don’t have the brain power to focus at all on Project A. It just isn’t there. So I’ll wonder about the house, doing little things. That dead plant that still hasn’t been thrown out–I can do that. Maybe that idea spluttering in the back of my head for a book cover can be sketched out?  Laundry. I should put my laundry away. I haven’t thought about this hat in forever; I should wear it to feel special. Those sunglasses should be in their case. That pile really should go to the shed. Oh, I need to organize my shed! That’s where that project went–I have a few minutes to look at it . . .

The dead plant was thrown out, but the pot didn’t get put away (come to think of it, there’s a bunch of pots I have to find a home for).

There are three pages of meaningless doodles that I left on the dining room table because I had to go to the bathroom, which is in the laundry room, which is why I decided to put my laundry away.

It was in my room that I noticed the hat, and turning to put it on, I noticed the sunglasses across the room. They weren’t cheap, so of course they need to go in their case, which is right next to the pile of books and craft supplies that need to go back into my shed where they came from a few weeks ago when it was just too cold to work in there.

In the shed I realize I have a pile of “put away completely later” that really just should be done, and it was halfway through that pile that I found the project I’d forgotten about, and . . .

Side quests. It’s not “tiffling.”

They are very important side quests.
