Why Writing is Like a Relationship
When an opportunity knocks on the door of a relationship, it isn’t always a good thing. With writing, it’s especially hard to see these traps.
You work so hard to get any kind of positive and meaningful validation with your work and suddenly, there it is. It’s easy to get swept up in the moment.
But you need to step back and think – really look at the offer before you. What are you giving up to sign this contract? What’s your end of the deal if you take on this project? Not just the due date, but the other expenses in terms of time, money and product expectations.
Any opportunity is a risk, whether you stepped into it by accident or chased it like a hungry wolf after a rabbit. But jumping on an opportunity without thinking about it, no matter how tempting it is, can mean a lot of heart-ache in the long run.
