June 4 question – What were some books that impacted you as a child or young adult?

Hmmm… The brain got rattled about last year, so this isn’t the easiest question.
I remember there were a number of fairy tale books and what not that I enjoyed a great deal. Witches, unicorns, dragons, spirits–any culture, any era. I still collect fairytale genre stuff, but I’m picky about it, now. If it isn’t cultural collections, then the art and storyline better be good, or I won’t touch it.
Sideways Stories from Wayside School was one that I remember checking out a lot from the library. It also got my son over the hump of not liking reading in elementary school. Once he discovered there were messed up stories written for his age group, he was all about reading.
I remember a horror phase in middle school, but that didn’t last. Half the books I found were rehashes of another book I’d already read. Half of whatever else I found was just too much for me to read. 35 years later, I still can’t finish Misery.
David Eddings, I read. Also the Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman DragonLance books about the twins and the war prior to the tale of the twins.
So yeah, there may be a theme, here.
