A Word Too Many People Use Too Much

Impossible.

It’s a defeatist word, I tell myself. It’s an easy answer when things are really hard. It negates any possibility of hope. It dismisses potential options.

To be fair, it is statistically improbable a human can reverse gravity using only the power of their mind, but let’s not go with the obvious.

It’s true you cannot be in 2 places at once, but it isn’t impossible to solve the issue: you need to prioritize the options. Can you get out of work early? Can you move one activity to a different day? Perhaps you can find a different vendor with a schedule that works with yours? Can you talk to the people involved to find a compromise?

It’s impossible to find time for me.

Well, let’s look at your schedule. Is there an activity you can cut? Do you need to work on boundaries so other people will stop expecting you to get everything done? If they don’t cooperate, can you accomplish things in small chunks and be satisfied with baby-steps as progress, while holding that line that things will not get done any faster? Is it really important to binge YouTube everyday?

Addictions and bad habits are hard to break. Adjusting to unwanted change, is hard. Adjusting your life to make a desired change, is hard.

Sometimes getting out of bed, getting a shower or brushing you teeth, is hard.

But these things are not impossible.
