Summer is Coming…

Summer is another time that I tend to plan waaaaayyy more than I am capable of. Between kids (read: disgruntled teens), the heat (outdoor chores have to be done by 10am or everyone will melt), the invariable “aw, shit! Really?!?” Crisis (at least one–family, an appliance, illness, something), and oh, yeah…ishouldprobablysitmyassdownandwritesomething, I get a few things crossed off the list, but never as much as I want.

But this summer is a little different. Several summers ago I was finally approved for lapiplasty on my left foot. I learned a lot that summer. Things like:

1- though I am quite lazy naturally, I do not do “helpless” well. I tend to feel a need to be self-sufficient when I ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT TRY TO BE.

2- I should not be given access to crutches unless absolutely necessary.

3- Making a list of Things To Do, and making sure I have the materials to do them within reach, DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING WILL GET DONE.

4- TIME MEANS NOTHING.

All this being said, I’m planning on my other foot getting done this summer, rather than waiting until EVERYTHING-NOT-JUST-THE-FOOT-HURTS.

So of course, there are things to do while I’m laid up (yes, I’ve drawn up a schedule for it, just like last time, but see points 3 and 4). I’ve started my book reading stack:

A couple of crafting bits, odds and ends to finish from the UnFinished Objects list.

And of course there are other things: a shadow-work journaling project (because of course the best time to do that is when you’re higher than a kite on pain meds); light weights with a guidebook (because I ^totally^ used them last time); some DVDs and music to keep me entertained; and, of course, WRITING.

Did I mention that I would be recovering from BONE SURGERY and will be on pain meds that will make things extra fun?

Will I be able to find someone who can translate an ancient diety’s beautifully simple yet mysterious language?
