Why Writing is Like a Relationship

a-z blog

Soul mates.

I hate this term. I despise it. It implies there’s only one person out there for you that you can truly be yourself with.

If you wait around for your soul mate, then you’re missing out on a lot of other opportunities. People you could learn a lot from and have fun along the way.

The same is true with a story. If all you do is sit around and wait for “the one” to do a lap dance for you in a coffee shop, then you’re going to be waiting a long damn time and not doing much else.

Just because you don’t think your ideas now are worthy of being remembered by history as your magnum opus, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try them. If they don’t work out, well, you at least you learned something and can apply it to “the one.”

And who knows what you’ll be remembered for 100 years from now. You might not be remembered at all, or you might end up like Tchaikovsky – He hated the The Nutcracker.

Oh, this was great. Thank you so much! Sometimes I don’t work as hard at my stories as I would at a good relationship. I can’t wait to see what’s next. Stopping by from Blogging A to Z.
