Wednesday Word February 2026: Oubaitori

I cannot promise how, where or when these words were used, if ever. I simply find them delightful, and want to share.

OUBAITORI

A concept that people are like flowers, in that they bloom in their own time, and take their own individual journeys.

I like to think this about myself–like I’m that one plant that the picture hanging on it, when purchased, showed this absolutely stunning bloom. The kind of bush/tree/flower that is the centerpiece of a garden.

But it’s been in the ground forever, and shows absolutely no signs of doing anything. You read articles, test the ph, fertilize, and still nada.

Should I dig it up and toss it? Should I give it another year to get used to the yard? Is it dead?

Then when day, maybe you look outside and see a shy little bloom poking out.

At least that’s what I hope I’m like.
