January 2026 Word: Vastidity

I cannot promise how, where or when these words were used, if ever. I simply find them delightful, and want to share.

VASTIDITY

Vastness. Shakespeare, Measure for Measure

I can’t say this out loud unless I say it very slowly, carefully annunciating every syllable.

I think that’s why I actually don’t like this word that much. “Vastness” sounds . . Vast. Big. Unending.

“Vastidy” sounds short. Not vast.

Also a bit ridiculous, because If I don’t say it slow and ah-nun-cee-ait every syllable, it garbles a bit in my mouth and sounds like “vast-titty.”

I’m certain Shakespeare would find that amusing.
