What skill would you like to learn?
ALL OF THEM!
I’ve always wanted to learn all kinds of things. Lamp working, spinning, woodcarving, bookmaking, weaving, extreme shark racing, crochet, knit, film making, sewing, skateboarding, programming, skiing, gardening, ice carving, pottery, painting, digital art, dog grooming, platypus farming, hairstyling, Icelandic, ASL, juggling, magic, dancing, martial arts, the list goes on!
But. . .
I am going to be 49, soon.
I think the most heartbreaking thing I’ve come to realize is that very few people can do ALL THE THINGS. The few who do are typically extremely wealthy, in time, money and discipline. Three things I lack.
I am going to be 49, soon.
It hurts to realize how much time you probably have left. It isn’t easy to admit you will never be able to do ALL THE THINGS.
But. . .
I CAN focus on some things. I can improve my skills in the things that I’ve learned how to do, and that I love to do.
Admitting defeat is a hard thing. Finding new homes for the tools and materials I’d acquired, with every intention of using and learning with, is hard.
Having the weight lifted from my shoulders that I DON’T HAVE RO DO ALL THE THINGS, is somehow liberating. I’m more relaxed because I have fewer potential projects staring me in the face.
I would LOVE to be the eccentric old lady who somehow knows how to do ALL THE THINGS.
But. . .
I can settle for being the eccentric old lady who has done SOME of the things.
