The last IWSG of 2023.
Where did the year go?
A lot of things got done this year, but there’s still a lot more to do (way more to do than was completed).
Some things just didn’t go according to plan…
*coughcoughyoutube bingeing still a problemcoughcough*
So I guess we’ll just have to start again, and again, and try again, until we get it right.
So….
I have to be honest at this point, I’ve struggled with what to write next for this post. Something witty, but truthful, but not filled with 8 tons of baggage…
Yeah…. there’s a lot of baggage. A lot of uncertainty. The writing biz is moving forwards, just not as awesomely as a rookie dreams it will.
However, the villain known as “The Great Procrastination” is so very strong, and their influence so subtle. Bingeing entertainment (cold turkey worked okay for three days, then suddenly I began thinking I didn’t really have a problem). Useless research (no, I cannot think of any of my plots in which it would be necessary for anyone to know what sound a giraffe makes, but for some reason that escapes me now, I desperately needed that information at the time).
This afternoon when I get a free hour. Tomorrow after breakfast. Next week my calendar will be less cluttered. Next month once I’m past the holidays. As soon as I pay this down and build that account up. Right after I get this thing done. Oh, wait, I have to schedule that thing. Aw, damn, I have to make plans for June now because of how things tend to go…
I’ve started looking at Romance covers (the rule seems to be the same for fantasy–do what you want, just be consistent across the series). I’ve been reading such articles as “the best time to release your book” (everyone says “Tuesday, between February and May, if you’re really concerned about the western market (but honestly unless your promotion is screaming hot, it probably wont make a difference, so just push it out whenever…)”)
Polish the turd, move it to another pocket. Polish it again, move it to a different coat. Polish it again, freak out when you misplaced it…
Ahhhh….. Procrastination.
Thou art a heartless bitch.
I guess we just have to try and catch ourselves at it, then start again.
But I can’t right now, because I have to wait until after my son’s orthodontist appointment this afternoon.
Just to be sure I don’t get distracted.
Again.
