IWSG May 2020 – Very Late

Do you have any rituals that you use when you need help getting into the ZONE? Care to share?

It used to be: get up, eat, get the kids to school, shower, tea, write.

If I didn’t do one of those things, the day was shot for writing. If I had to do something else, like run an errand, the day was shot.

A little while later it turned into: get up, eat, get the kids to school, shower, homemade mocha (because I’m a pansy who can’t take coffee straight), write. Same conditions regarding errands and such.

Now?

BWAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHA!!!!!!

I wish I could blame it on Covid. I do. I desperately do. The kids are home all day, the stress of uncertainty can destroy anyone’s creative spirit, and I swear my husband is secretly wanting me to use his body as filler for a retaining wall.

But I know those aren’t the problem. Contributors, sure, but not the problem. Because I have a laptop. Which means that while I can’t go to the library or the coffee shop, I can go outside in the backyard to tippy-type.

I wish I could  blame the many unfinished projects I have lying around the house. Indeed, I did blame them. Therapists the world over agree that clutter can enhance mental and emotionally difficulties, even if it’s neatly organized clutter. Of course projects that have been neatly packed away with the best of intentions to finish them “someday” would contribute to that clutter. Even if I don’t see them everyday, I still know they’re there, therefore, it makes sense that I have some psychological clutter going on.

But after finishing some 15 of them (Ye, Gods, it takes FOREVER to finish one of those things.  Why do crafts take so long to finish? Ugh!) I still  have MORE waiting in the queue (Kinda embarrassing, really. I didn’t realize I’d UFO’ed that many…), and my brain’s transmission seems to have fallen out somewhere, because I just can’t seem to switch gears worth a damn. I’m almost a week late on this posting because I started it, but I had to flog myself to finish (and not in a good way).

Things have gotten to a point now that I’m researching if there’s some spell I can use, but so far, everything I’ve found recquires a Dodo, a Golden Toad, or a Quagga.
