January 8 question – What started you on your writing journey? Was it a particular book, movie, story, or series? Was it a teacher/coach/spouse/friend/parent? Did you just “know” suddenly you wanted to write?
I have already mentioned my VERY INTERESTING ORIGIN STORY in a previous post, so I will be addressing something else today.
My Creative Writing Process.
Yes, I’ve addressed this previously as well, but I’m doing it again because I think my origin story is rather boring and has evolved into a tale of spite over the years. So.
My creative Writing Process
Step 1 – “Wow, I have a cool idea! I should tell my friends about it!”
Step 2 – “I should tell everyone about it!”
Step 3 – “I should Write it down so that everyone gets the same version and understands the awesome coolness of my idea!”
Step 4 – Sits down to write.
*Step 5 – Stares at paper.
Step 6 – “Wait. I’m supposed to ADULT this?”
Step 7 – Inspiration starts to wither on the vine. Sometimes I go back to Step 1.
Step 8 – Frantically start writing anything down in order to try and save the idea that really is cool, it just needs a little work.
Step 9 – Beat the crap out of myself for a few years until the really cool idea materializes into a really cool physical thing.
Step 10 – Go back to Step 1.
*Alternatively
Step 5a – I write faster than I can think for about 6 weeks.
Step 6a – I lay about the house for a few weeks, feeling like crap.
Step 7a – I go back to what I’ve written and try to make sense of it.
Step 8a – Rewrite, research, edit for a year or two until the really cool idea materializes into a really cool physical thing.
Step 9a – Go back to Step 1.
